A short story

August 15, 2008, 12:38PM

The post directly under this one is a short story I wrote a few years ago. It's not brilliant or perfect, but it is entertaining enough and was indeed accepted for publication in the Ankeny Briefcase. Since they only published one issue (and since I'm sure they were taking a 'save the best for last' approach to publishing my story...), mine never made it into print.

But that's a good thing...

If you've read my first novel, My Name Is Russell Fink, you'll notice a lot of crossover between this story and that one. The main character in this tale is not Russell Fink, but rather some embryonic distant cousin who just happen to share a few acquaintances of his future semi-related self...or something like that. So if it had been published, it would seem that I'm stealing my own ideas, which of course I am. But unless something really strange happens, I don't think I'll ever sue myself.

Anyhow...I've alwasy considered this the first good story I ever wrote. Hope you enjoy it.

NOTE TO SELF:   MAKE SURE TO ANNOUNCE THIS ON FACEBOOK, MASTER'S ARTIST, CW.COM, GOOD READS, MYSPACE, OTHER?
